This is not a replay of the latest episode of America’s most liked/hated publicized family.
The awareness level among the general public of H2 is still in its infancy, but the seeds are being planted everywhere we look.
The early adopters are all over the H2 story. They are bursting with questions and enthusiasm. They have usually had a big win with a new health craze in the past that keeps them searching for the next big thing. They are typically attempting to grab “exclusive rights” to market H2 products for the universe.
The scientists exposed the alkaline water ionizer industry for its false claims, but have been inquisitive and respectful of the science behind H2. A number of scientists have contacted us asking questions and for clarifications. The callers typically want to know how H2 ties into their research at which point, we refer them to the scientists who have been helping us understand the H2 world.
The alkaline water ionizer industry is the source of the “keeping up” title of this article.
The American distributors (the machines themselves or the parts for the machines are almost exclusively made in Asia) of alkaline water ionizers are caught in a very difficult position. They are aware that H2 is the cause of the benefits in ionized water. As such, the alkaline water ionizer companies are migrating their branding towards H2. For example, Alkaviva is advertising their “New H2 Series for Optimal Hydrogen Performance” while Tyent USA’s new slogan is “Leading the way into the Hydrogen Revolution”.
While the rebranding process is a work in process, the products offered by the alkaline water ionizer companies face a number of serious issues when it comes to “keeping up”.
The first problem is that their machines were designed to produce alkaline water, not hydrogen. While the electrolysis process produces hydrogen, the machines were not designed to dissolve the H2 into the water. That means their customers are not drinking water with much or any H2 at all..
The second problem is that alkaline water ionizers need to produce very high levels of alkaline water in order to produce barely therapeutic levels of H2. The high levels of pH are unnatural to the human body and as such are unhealthy. Another problem created by high pH levels in water is that calcium precipitates out of the source water and scales up the machines, often within a couple of weeks. Scaling (on the plates in the electrolysis chamber or further downstream in connects, tubes, and drinking lines) renders the machines virtually useless when it comes to creating dissolved H2.
Third, the alkaline water ionizer industry has been built on a “power struggle” where they have added more and more power to their machines as a sign of assumed superiority. Unfortunately, when more power is used, bigger H2 bubbles are formed which are very difficult if not impossible to dissolve into water. Therefore, the entire he alkaline water ionizer industry marketing strategy has completely backfired when it comes to the actual science.
The fourth problem is that the alkaline water ionizers produce very little or zero H2 for those with have soft water conditions. When the companies send out remin filters to help, the solution is very temporary.
The biggest problem of all for the alkaline water industry is explaining to their hundreds of thousands of customers that the alkaline water story is based upon unscientific myths. To date, the alkaline water ionizer companies have chosen to rebrand their machines. Will the alkaline water ionizer industry every be able to take the bold step
of apologizing to their customers and begin making products that produce reliable and therapeutic doses of H2 ?
